Acne can destroy your self confidence.

Acne

Also called: spots, zits, pimples

Myths: Acne only happens if you don’t wash!

Eating too much chocolate and greasy food causes acne!

Stress causes acne!

Acne is a common skin complaint that causes pustules on the skin. Spots form when hair follicles under your skin clog up. Most spots form on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. Anyone can get acne, but it is more common in teenagers and young adults. It is not serious, but it can cause scars and destroy self confidence.

No one knows exactly what causes acne. Hormone changes, such as those during the teenage years and pregnancy is one medical theory .

If you have acne

  • Clean your skin gently, use a good cleansing routine, with non-perfumed products.
  • Pat the skin dry with a towel.
  • There are many topical creams available use non perfumed antibacterial creams if possilbe
  • Try Ginseng Care Serum. It is fragrance free, paraben free and all active ingredients are 100% natural.
  • Avoid the sun

Treatments for acne include medicines and creams.

What Is Acne and how does it develop?

Acne affects the skin’s oil glands.

  • Pores in the skin are connected to oil glands under the skin.
  • The oil glands produce an oily substance called sebum.
  • The pores connect to the glands by a canal called a follicle.
  • Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin.
  •  A thin hair also grows through the follicle and out of the skin.
  • Bacteria in the clogged pore causes a swelling.
  • When the follicle of a skin gland clogs up, a spot is formed.

There are many types of spots. The most common types are:

  • Whiteheads. These are spots that stay under the surface of the skin.
  • Blackheads. These spots rise to the skin’s surface and look black due to the dead skin cells. The black color is not from dirt.
  • Papules. These are small pink bumps that can be tender.
  • Pustules. These spots are red at the bottom and have pus on top.
  • Nodules. These are large, painful, solid spots that are deep in the skin.
  • Cysts. These deep, painful, pus-filled spots can cause scars.
  • Carbuncles. A carbuncle is a collection of multiple infected hair follicles. It is an abscess and a serious infection. Whereas a pustule  is an infection of a hair follicle and the surrounding tissue, a carbuncle is several pustules that are densely packed together.

Who Gets Acne?

Acne is the most common skin disease. People of all races and ages get acne. But it is most common in teenagers and young adults. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.

What Causes Acne?

The cause of acne is unknown. Doctors think certain factors might cause it:

  • The hormone increase in teenage years (this can cause the oil glands to plug up more often)
  • Hormone changes during pregnancy
  • Starting or stopping birth control pills
  • Heredity (if your parents had acne, you might get it, too)
  • Some types of medicine
  • Greasy makeup.

How Is Acne Treated?

A dermatologist is the best person to give advice about any skin complaint. They will provide treatments to help:

  • Heal spots
  • Stop new spots from forming
  • Prevent scarring
  • Help reduce the embarrassment of having acne.

Prevention is better than cure and a good skin cleansing routine may help reduce the acne.

  • Clean skin gently. Use a mild cleanser in the morning, evening. Scrubbing the skin does not stop acne. It can make the problem worse.
  • Try not to touch your skin. People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their spots can get scars or dark spots on their skin.
  • Men, be sure to shave carefully. Soften your beard with soap and water before putting on shaving cream. Shave lightly and only when you have to.
  • Stay out of the sun. Many acne medicines such as hydrocortisone can make the skin thinner and more susceptible to sunburn, even when the sun is not directly shining.  Excessive exposure to the sun or on sun beds, dehydrates the skin, robs it of its nutrients, and prematurely ages the skin. It also raises the risk of skin cancer.
  • Choose makeup carefully. All makeup should be oil free. Look for the word “noncomedogenic” on the label. This means that the make-up will not clog up your pores. But some people still get acne even if they use these products. Try paraben free make-up. Parabens are chemicals used to preserve the make-up and creams. Reading University in the United Kingdom have written papers on the link between Parabens and breast cancer.

What makes acne worse?

Some things can make acne worse:

  • Changing hormone levels in teenage girls and adult women 2 to 7 days before their period starts
  • Clothing and activities causing excess sweating
  • Pollution and high humidity
  • Squeezing or picking at spots
  • Hard scrubbing of the skin

After cleansing your skin we recommend you try Ginseng Care Serum.
